Kinegen Wave waterproof polycentric prosthetic knee joint for above-knee amputees

Are You Living with an Above-Knee Amputation?

Losing a limb changes everything — the way you walk, the way you move through your day, and even the activities you once enjoyed without thinking. If you or a loved one has had a transfemoral (above-knee) amputation, you understand the daily challenges: the fear of falling, the struggle to walk confidently on different surfaces, and the frustration of feeling limited.

Above-knee amputation can result from many causes, including:

Vascular disease — including peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affecting blood flow to the lower limbs
Diabetes complications — such as diabetic gangrene or non-healing wounds leading to surgical amputation
Traumatic injury — limb loss from accidents, workplace injuries, or road traffic collisions
Cancer surgery — amputation due to bone cancer (osteosarcoma) or soft tissue sarcoma
Congenital limb difference — being born without a full lower limb
Severe infection — such as osteomyelitis or necrotizing fasciitis requiring surgical removal

No matter the cause, the journey after amputation often comes with common concerns — knee buckling while standing, tripping during walking, difficulty with balance, and the inability to participate in water activities like swimming or even showering comfortably with a prosthesis. Many patients also find that their current prosthetic knee feels unstable, too heavy, or simply not suited to their lifestyle — especially in a warm, coastal environment like Dubai and the UAE, where water-based activities are part of daily life. If any of this sounds familiar, the right prosthetic knee joint can make a real difference.

How the Kinegen Wave Prosthetic Knee Joint Can Help You

The Kinegen Wave is a polycentric prosthetic knee joint designed to give above-knee amputees a safer, more natural walking experience — on land and in water. Unlike single-axis knee joints, the Kinegen Wave uses a multi-axis (polycentric) design with a posteriorly positioned pivot point, engineered to resist buckling when you stand or bear weight.

Here’s how the Kinegen Wave works to support your mobility:

🛡️ High Stance Phase Stability

The posteriorly positioned pivot point creates inherent geometric locking during stance. When you place weight on the prosthetic leg, the knee resists buckling — providing a high level of safety without requiring active muscular effort.

🦿 Swing Phase Shortening

The polycentric mechanism causes the shin to physically shorten as the knee flexes during swing. This provides increased ground clearance, which may help reduce the risk of tripping or catching the foot on the ground.

🔄 Extension Assist Spring

An integrated spring helps extend the knee as the leg swings forward, ensuring the shin reaches full extension before heel strike. This contributes to a smoother, more confident step.

🔒 Manual Lock Function

Easily switch between free-knee mode for natural walking and locked-knee mode for maximum stability — ideal for standing for long periods or navigating challenging terrain.

⚙️ Adjustable Swing Control

Your prosthetist can fine-tune the axis friction to match your walking speed and style, helping achieve a more natural-looking gait rhythm tailored to you.

🌊 Fully Waterproof

The Kinegen Wave is designed to function in fresh water, chlorinated pools, and salt water — meaning you can swim, enjoy the beach, or shower without needing a separate prosthesis.

What truly sets the Kinegen Wave apart is its waterproof construction. Living in Dubai and the UAE means water is part of your lifestyle — from beach outings to pool sessions. The Kinegen Wave lets you participate in these activities freely, without worry. Many users experience improved confidence and a more natural walking pattern with consistent use, especially when combined with rehabilitation and physiotherapy.
